Aimless is a small, pixel art physics-based puzzle game built in six days during the Game Idea Jam 2024 (hosted by paweljarosz), the goal of which was to make a game based off of a prompt from a random game idea generator. It's also our first game and first submission for a game jam.

Gameplay:

You play as a little astronaut collecting crystal gems in space by bouncing off asteroids and swinging around black holes to get to the crystal in each level.

Controls:

Left click on buttons (click on "play," "main menu," "next level," etc.)

Hit space bar to fire and propel yourself the opposite direction of where you fire

Hit R to reset the level if you fall off screen, overshoot the distance, or just want to restart the level

Game Jam Prompt:

We used the random game idea generator from Snowy Owl and settled on this prompt: "A cute, puzzle game that takes place in space where the goal is to capture the point, but, you can only use one button to play."

Goal: "Capture the point"

(We envisioned this as an astronaut collecting gems in space.)

Setting: "In space"

(Our astronaut is floating "aimlessly" in space.)

Genre: "Cute and puzzle"

(We went for cute pixel graphics and physics puzzles.)

Art Style (optional): "Voxel"

(We decided to use pixel art instead!)

Twist: "You can only use one button to play"

(The main gameplay is all with a space bar; the only other controls are "R" to reset a level or left clicking on menu buttons.)

Bonus (optional): "Explosives"

(The idea is that the player uses the explosion of shooting an asteroid to propel themselves in their chosen direction.)
